The body goes through many incredible changes during the course of a pregnancy. It is a major lifestyle adjustment that can seem difficult at times. Even after the birth of the baby, the body continues to change in ways that allows you to nourish your child. Nursing clothes are an absolute must if you intend to breastfeed. The need for pregnancy clothes does not end once the child is born. It may be several weeks or months before you are back to your former size. So do not pack away your maternity wear for awhile.

In most cases, the trendy maternity clothing you purchased while you were pregnant will still be suitable to wear for awhile after the baby is born, because it will take some time to get back down to your normal weight. Sometimes, new mothers have unrealistic ideas following the birth of their child, in that they will immediately be able to fit back into their size 3 jeans easily. Unfortunately this is not the case. There will still be excess weight and a new mom's body is still changing in order to provide life-giving nutrition to the new baby.

Nursing wear is designed to facilitate mothers who elect to breast feed their infants. Tops are designed to allow easy access when it comes feeding time. The blouses and shirts also take into account that the breasts will typically increase in size to account for the milk production. Maternity pants can still be used, but you also need to consider what to wear if you must have a Caesarian section.

During a C-section, the doctor must make an incision in the abdomen to extract the baby. After surgery, this site will be very sore and tender to the touch. Many mothers try to find nursing clothes or maternity fashion that is comfortable on this incision. The fabric should be stretchy and not cause any abrasions to the surgery line. Having pants that are easy to pull on, such as drawstring, can make dressing a bit easier.

One accessory of nursing clothes that you will absolutely need is a nursing bra. These are specially designed nursing wear bras that allow the cups to peel back so the baby can feed. The extra support is also great for your back since your breast size will probably increase. No matter what maternity clothing you choose, find fabrics that are comfortable and can be easily cared for without taking them to the dry cleaner.
